The first World Fair Trade Day was celebrated on 4 May 2002 and was developed from the European Worldshop Day that started in 1996. Today the World Fair Trade Day is organised by the World Fair Trade Organisation (WFTO). The World Fair Trade Day falls on the second Saturday of May. The aim of this day is to organise events that unite Fair Trade producers and consumers, Fair Trade Organizations, social and environmental organisations in a common effort to support Fair Trade and trade justice for small producers.
