Il gas naturale liquefatto si ottiene condensando il gas naturale allo stato liquido, portandone la temperatura a -162°C e riducendone così il volume specifico di 600 volte. 1947 : Le 23 décembre le transistor, dispositif à trois électrodes permettant la détection et l’amplification des courants électriques, est présenté par John Bardeen, Walter Brattain et William Shockley des Laboratoires Bell, aux États-Unis. Pour cette invention qui va conduire au développement de l’électronique ils obtiennent le prix Nobel de Physique en 1956.

Gaz naturel liquéfié ou GNL
Une ressource fossile encore prometteuse
Le gaz naturel liquéfié est produit à partir du gaz naturel condensé à l’état liquide en ramenant sa température à -162°C pour une réduction de volume par un facteur de 600. Il peut alors être transporté par mer par les méthaniers et ramené à l’état gazeux dans les terminaux de liquéfaction. Le GNL est aujourd’hui la plus propre des énergies fossiles.
